There are many reasons to become a member of CBRC. If you’ve found yourself here on our site, there’s a good chance that you love bikes and bike racing. If you’re new to New York’s Capital Region, or new to the sport, membership in CBRC is the best way to meet dedicated athletes who enjoy training and racing bicycles in New York and New England. You’ll become part of a team of dedicated individuals who work throughout the year to compete in and promote some of the highest profile races on the East Coast.
CBRC truly offers something for every individual interested in racing bikes, whether you’ve never purchased a USCF license or, like some of our members, have a license number with only four digits (check yours now, it probably has six), you’ll find training partners to ride with, experienced racers to learn from and swap stories with, and across the board get to hang out with a crew of bike crazed men and women, who truly love cycling.
If you’re interested in joining CBRC there’s a couple steps you should take. First, join us on one of our many weekly rides. They go on throughout the year and are a great way to see what we’re like in person – check out our ride calender for the next one. Rides vary from the standard off-season LSD cruise, to epics that warrant opening the suitcase of courage more than once. Regardless, a good time is always had by all.
Once you’ve had a chance to join the team for a spin or two, you’ll need to look into actually signing up with CBRC. There are a few steps you need to take – first off, fill out our membership application. You can do that electronically via Bike Reg, or, you can download a paper form, fill it out and send it in with a check. I encourage you to save a tree and visit the Bike Reg site today!
Once you’ve joined the club, you’ll have to decide whether you plan on racing with the CBRC team, or racing with another team. Most of our members race under the CBRC banner, but a few elite and collegiate racers are club members who race under another banner. If you’re racing with CBRC, you’ll need a USCF license that reflects CBRC as your “team.” Check out the USA Cycling Website for details on licensing.
You’ll also need a team kit. Its expected that all team members will race in the most current team kit. This can be purchased via Bike Reg, just like membership, or you can contact our Secretary, Danny Goodwin, for a face to face meet up and sale. Throughout the year we place orders for specialty pieces like skinsuits, jackets, and knickers, but the most important pieces of clothing – your jersey and shorts, are almost always available.
Quite simply, if you love bikes and racing, you can’t go wrong with CBRC. Join up, get a kit, and get out on the road!
