About CBRC

The Capital Bicycle Racing Club, or CBRC as it’s affectionately known across the North East, is one of the longest running and most successful amateur bicycle racing clubs in the United States.  Now in its twenty-fifth year,  CBRC serves a dual role in the cycling community, providing both a racing team and races, making it one of the most well known club teams on the East Coast.

One of the club’s chief missions is to foster the bike racing environment in Upstate New York.  CBRC has promoted a huge array of events over its lifespan, from local time trials to elite criteriums  drawing the world’s best, we’ve got experience doing it all.  George Hincapie was a regular at the Tulip Fest Crit of the late 80s and early 90s.  Today our events draw some of the best up and coming cross and road racers in the country.  The Cat 1 Race at any given CBRC event is almost always a battle of the next big guys, and its great to play a part in that!

For 2010 the club has a number of great events in the works.  From the Johnny Cake Lane Spring Series, a staple in early season race prep, to the NY Capital Region Road Race in mid August, one of New York’s most popular road races, CBRC makes sure there are races to race at all season long.   Of course, the cool fall weather doesn’t stop us- it brings on Cyclocross.  In the past five years cross has really become a focus of the club.  CBRC presently promotes three major regional cross races and is closely tied to the NYCROSS.com Cyclocross Series.   Be assured, long sleeve skinsuits, tubular glue and lots of mud are big parts of the CBRC lifestyle.

But race promotion is only one part of the club.

One of the best things about CBRC is that we race competitively and a lot.  In 2009 riders sporting the Crank Logo won national,  state and regional titles in road and cross disciplines.  Among our ranks are multiple national champions.   We’ve placed highly in intense and prestigious races, from the Battenkill Roubaix to Iron Cross and Gloucester.   You’ll be hard pressed to find results from a major East Coast race that don’t show CBRC racers among those who went deep in the pain bucket, and took a shot at glory.

CBRC’s racing team is comprised of individuals at all levels of the sport.  We’ve funneled many riders to elite teams over the years, and we are very proud of our success as amateur athletes in our own right.  Currently the team supports organized racing squads at the Cat 3 and Cat 4 levels, while also promoting junior development .   If you’re interested in racing with the team, check out our team page for information on who to contact.

Possibly the best part about the club though, isn’t that we race  a lot, or that we promote many of the great New York races.  Rather, it’s that while we take cycling seriously, we don’t let that take the fun out of the sport.    Spending time in the CBRC kit guarantees two things.  First, you’re going to learn more about racing bikes than you ever knew existed.  Second, you’re going to spend a lot of time with a crew of very interesting and amusing people.

Great friendships have been forged and amazing stories have been written in the black and blue kit.   We encourage you to join the fun and mayhem this year!
